As I look back on the 2022 edition, I'm reminded of what made that experience so special: the perfect fusion of past and present, of physical form and philosophical inquiry. But more than a retrospective, this is also a moment to look ahead.

Set among villas, palazzos, gardens, and hidden courtyards, the 2022 Lake Como Design Festival was anything but ordinary. It wasn't just about objects — it was about context. Each installation, each exhibition, and each dialogue was placed intentionally, as if the city itself were part of the narrative. And it was.
The theme, “Neo-nomadism,” explored how we move, adapt, and create in shifting spaces — a reflection that felt especially relevant after years of global pause. From exhibitions inside Villa Olmo to site-specific pieces in lesser-known historic spaces, the Festival turned the Lake into a stage.
But what stayed with me most wasn't just the art — it was the conversations. The Festival invited thinkers, curators, architects, and the public to reflect on how we live now — and more importantly, how we want to live.
Design Meets Territory: Why Lake Como Is the Perfect Canvas
Lake Como is known for its beauty — but during the Design Festival, it becomes something else: a living gallery. The interplay between water, architecture, and time turns even the quietest courtyard into a provocation. This is not just about looking — it's about experiencing.
The 2022 edition reminded us that good design isn't just about objects. It's about places, ideas, and the freedom to rethink how we interact with our environment. Here, design is rooted in tradition but open to reinvention. And the Festival is the meeting point between the two.
A Glimpse of What's Next
As we move toward the next edition — already teased on the official Lake Como Design Festival website — there's a sense of evolution. The themes are becoming more ambitious, the dialogue more international, the footprint across Como more expansive.
While the full program is yet to be announced, expectations are high. The Festival has positioned itself as a unique blend of art, architecture, craftsmanship, and contemporary thinking. And if 2022 is anything to go by, the upcoming edition promises another deep, curated immersion in what design can mean — not just what it looks like.
